The Royal Palm Reserve is a 300-acre site was created to protect and conserve the Negril Great Morass and it’s wetlands. It boasts 114 plant species including the Royal Palm found only in this area of Jamaica.
Walk the reserve’s half a mile boardwalk with a trained guide or by yourself. Follow the interpretive signs. Stop and climb the 30 foot observation tower and get an overhead view of the Negril Great Morass.
Rent a fishing road and they will provide the worms! You can catch African Perch an Tarpon in the Cotton Tree Lake. You can even buy the fish you catch!
Arrive early in the morning or evening to observe some of the 50 bird species that live in the Reserve. You’ll have the opportunity to watch the endangered West Indian Whistling Ducks fly overhead to fee near the Cotton Tree Lake.
Guided horseback riding tours of the Royal Palm Reserve and surrounding areas are now available. Explore sections of the Great Morass and rural Jamaica by horseback! Groups of up to 20 persons are welcome. Please phone to book in advance.
Bring along a picnic lunch and enjoy Cotton Tree Lake and the tranquility of the Lakeside Bar as you watch the Moorhens swim and the Tarpons Jump. Drinks are available for purchase.
